Our Story
In 2016, Stephen, Peter, and Andre, regulars at Great Northern, became the new owners of our operation, taking over from founder and owner-operator Brent McCorquodale. Brent chose our location in the Bad Shot Range of the Selkirk Mountains based on snow records from the University of Calgary archives dating back to the 1800s.
He chose this spot for only one reason: It snows a ton every year!
Brent took a unique approach to skiing; there were no counts of runs, vertical drops, or watching the clock. It was all about skiing deep powder until the sunlight faded or the guests’ energy ran out. That’s why we love Great Northern, and our story of passion and adventure will remain unchanged!

My expectations were met 100%! The skiing terrain is a giant playground, and the snowcat experience was incredible! Drivers are the best and the provisions provided in the cat box were great and it was always fun in the box. Guides were helpful and patient, giving tips and finding the best snow and best lines. All lodge staff were awesome! Made the lodge accommodating and welcoming Thank you! Accommodations were very cozy. The meals were exceptional! Thank you to all the kitchen staff and servers. By far the best snowboarding I’ve ever done in my life! Accommodations, food, staff and guides are fantastic. Owners and management run a feel good business. Super cozy it also has a sauna and hot tub. Highly recommend going if you enjoy fresh powder runs every time 😉 bring a snorkel

The guides were friendly, safe, and went above and beyond to provide tips on how to ski powder and to make sure everyone got terrain that matched their abilities. The food and hospitality were exceptional, from aprés ski appetizers to dinner, breakfast, and lunches in the cat. Massages, yoga, and genuine interest and evening activities fostered a friendships and positive group dynamics. Will be re-booking soon!
Excellent guides, Bert and Dave were amazing at finding fun lines. There is an incredible amount of outstanding terrain. Pow turns all 3 days every run. Food was excellent! All staff were friendly. I miss it already.
